Role of Structural Engineer in Building Construction

A Structural Engineer operates in the field of civil engineering that is engaged in efficient design, construction and maintenance of residential and commercial buildings, bridges, civic facilities and various other structures.

Structural Engineeing Services

The important duty of a Structural Engineer is to conceptualize and design such structures that can resist any forces it may be exposed to.

Any structure, whether it be a steel bridge or parking structure, must be able to withstand a great deal of forces. The Structural Engineer actively participates in the design stage by evaluating structures subjectivity to these forces.

Using CAD tools and applied engineering concepts, engineer calculates the estimated impact of external forces such as wind, seismic movements, snowstorms and internal forces such as furniture load and human occupancy.

Structural Engineer is Also Actively Involved In:
  • Consulting and Collaborating with Architect
  • Compliance with Local Building Codes
Once the design phase and drawings are completed, the Structural Engineer applies its domain expertise and experience in choosing materials and manpower to estimate the cost of construction.

Sometime there are specific budget constraints and a Structural Engineer must strive to satisfy project goals in as cost-effective manner as possible. This involves careful selection of raw materials and manpower as well as estimating the time needed for project delivery.

During construction process, structural designing and structural engineering services as standing supervisor and site analyst. It is their duty to enforce strict safety standards and make sure that the construction work complies with the defined design and regional building codes.
